Research

Research forms the fundamental basis for my decision making and allows the evaluation and improvement to health care. I focus on improving patient care by evaluating clinical decisions and results of surgery and translational research (taking science from bench to bedside)

The four main areas of clinical research that I undertake are systematic reviews and meta-analyses, clinical trials, diagnostic and cohort studies. My basic science research focuses on blood based biomarkers for the diagnosis of cancer and for treatment predictions with circulating tumour cells and circulating free tumour DNA.

Additional Educational Information

I graduated from the University of Sheffield and trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Cambridge and London. I was the recipient of an MRC scholarship and was awarded an MSc in Biostatistics and an MD for surgical research. I was appointed as a Thoracic Surgeon to the Royal Brompton Hospital 2007.
