Three New Multicenter Studies Now Open

The ESTS Thymic Working Group is entering a new phase of collaborative research. With the ESTS Thymic Registry now fully operational, three new multicenter projects have been launched to address long-standing evidence gaps in thymic epithelial tumours (TET).

Members are warmly invited to contribute cases by 1 December.

If each of the 50 participating centres enters their cases, the group will be able to produce robust, publication-ready analyses and accelerate evidence-based improvements in care.

New Studies

1) Peri-Operative Chemotherapy in TET According to TNM-9
Lead: Marco Chiappetta (Catanzaro, Italy)
This study will evaluate the impact of neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy across TNM-9 stages, focusing on overall, cancer-specific, and disease-free survival.

2) Minimally Invasive vs. Open Resection in TET
Lead: Karol Chorąży (Vienna, Austria)
Outcomes of minimally invasive and open surgery will be compared, with particular focus on early-stage disease and tumours >5 cm. Improved completeness in the Registry is expected to allow propensity-score matching.

3) Post-Operative Radiotherapy (PORT) in Thymomas and Thymic Carcinomas
Lead: Francesco Guerrera (Turin, Italy)

This project aims to define the impact of PORT on event-free and overall survival according to the TNM-9 classification.

How to Participate

Members wishing to take part may join one or more studies. Centres are asked to update Registry data to TNM-9 and ensure the required variables are complete. Authorship will be based on a transparent contribution tracking system.
