What is COPD?

It is possible that your doctor commented about COPD when providing you information about the surgical process.

COPD is a lung disease that, when present, affects both lungs almost to the same extent. It mainly produces shortness of breath, cough with a lot of sputum and lung sounds as wheezes.

It occurs after long exposure to irritant substances as the smoke of tobacco but not only: air pollution, chemicals and dust can also produce it or worsen the effect of the cigarette smoking.

COPD cannot be cured.

We can treat the symptoms when they appear.

It is not possible for a lung that is already damaged to recover, but it is possible to stop the progression of the disease: one of the most valuable action is to stop smoking.
