Remember not to:

  1. Spend hours in bed, as this will increase the risk of infection (pneumonia), lung collapse and other problems such as blood clots in the legs.

  2. Failing to comply with medication guidelines, as this will produce pain and limit your physical activity.

  3. Define goals that you cannot meet. The postoperative period is a phase of progressive recovery, so trying to recover the level of previous activity very quickly can cause frustration and complications of surgery.

  4. Do not seek for medical attention especially from your surgeon when indicated. After surgery, close monitoring is necessary to prevent complications.
