Types of pulmonary resections

Wedge Resection

Only removes a small portion of the lung following a non-anatomical line.

Segmental Resection 

A small portion of the lung is removed following anatomical lines.

Lobectomy

A lobe of the lung is removed.

Pneumonectomy

The entire lung is removed.

Sleeve Resection

Part of airway is removed, requiring the remaining lung to be reattached to the bronchus.

Extended Resection

Sometimes the tumor has affected the chest wall or some structures of the mediastinum and they have to be removed at the same time.
