Background
I am an Associate Professor of Thoracic Surgery and designated Lung Transplant Specialist at Ankara City Hospital—one of the highest-volume tertiary centers in Europe. Having completed my thoracic surgery residency alongside a Ph.D. in Basic Surgical Sciences (ORPHEUS certified), my clinical and academic trajectory focuses on bridging advanced surgical practice with translational research. My clinical scope encompasses end-stage lung diseases, organ donor procurement, recipient lung implantation, post-transplant ECMO management, complex airway/tracheal resections, and advanced minimally invasive oncological resections (VATS). Concurrently, I serve as the Acting Director of Residency Training, overseeing postgraduate surgical education and curriculum design.
Other Interests
• Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) & Organ Preservation Technologies
• Translational Animal Models & Experimental Microsurgery
• Machine Learning & Predictive Analytics in Thoracic Oncology
• Postgraduate Surgical Pedagogy & Simulation-Based Residency Training
• Complex Tracheobronchial & Chest Wall Reconstruction
Research
My scientific research spans translational surgical models and clinical cohort analytics. In experimental medicine, I specialize in microsurgical rodent lung transplantation, ischemia-reperfusion injury mechanisms, and biomaterial applications in cardiac/thoracic tissue engineering (including TÜBİTAK-funded hydrogel and exosome research). Clinically, my work focuses on long-term survival metrics in lung transplantation, reconstructive chest wall protocols (including vacuum-assisted closure and osteosynthesis systems), and clinical outcome prediction using advanced data mining and machine learning models (e.g., Random Forest and SHAP analysis).
